Found another similar usage of delicatessen FWIW.
Geez, from a 1918 translation of a French novel called Colette
Baudoche: The Story of a Young Girl of Metz (by Maurice Barrès)
Page 58:
"They gave big, showy dinners, but ordinarily they ate delicatessen."

Hmmm....
